Capilano University has earned an international reputation for quality teaching, programs and services. We strive to instill the knowledge, skills, motivation and attitudes that will enable our students to become independent thinkers and learners, and to contribute effectively in a rapidly changing world.

History
Capilano University was founded by the school boards and residents of North Vancouver, West Vancouver and Howe Sound through referendum in 1968. Classes that first year were held in a small building on the grounds of West Vancouver Secondary School.
Initial enrolment that first year was 784 students and as of 2016, has grown to enroll approximately 11,600 students per year. Today, Capilano University has blossomed into a publicly-funded learning institution that serves 7,000 students in for-credit programs and 4,000 in non-credit courses annually. The University has approximately 785 employees.

Location & Transportation

Our main campus is in North Vancouver, located in a natural environment on the slopes of the North Shore and only a 20-minute drive from downtown Vancouver. The beauty of the campus and the quality of education attract students from around the world.

Why Study Here?
The main Cap campus in North Vancouver is striking in its uncommon beauty. Lush forests, towering mountains and stunning plant life are the backdrop for your campus life. We're also proud of our presence on the Sunshine Coast and serving the Sea to Sky Corridor—all great places to learn and live.
There are two types of universities: research institutions and teaching institutions. In a research institution, the professors are engaged primarily in research. In a teaching institution like Cap, the instructors are engaged primarily in teaching. They're people who will take the time to figure out your learning style, your needs, and your strengths. Not to mention your name.
We keep our classes small. In fact, none of our classes has more than 35 students. It's a big part of how we keep the learning experience personal, adaptable, and relevant.
