A 12-month work placement scheme has just been approved for certain taught postgraduate courses at Kingston University for the September 2018 intake. The work placement (maximum 12 months) is optional, and takes place after postgraduate students have successfully completed the taught portion of their degree.
Which courses is this available for?

The scheme has initially been approved for the following courses:
- All taught business postgraduate programmes
- Journalism, English Literature, History and Creative Writing in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS)
- All taught MSc programmes in the Faculty of Science, Engineering and Computing (SEC), and
- All taught postgraduate programmes in the Design School and the Department of Fine Art, in the Faculty of Art, Design & Architecture (FADA)
How Will I find my placement ?

The responsibility for finding a placements is with the student; we cannot guarantee the placement, just the opportunity to undertake it.
However, our KU Talent team will provide support and training sessions for this.
What are the visa implications ?

- As the work placement is an assessed part of the course, it is covered by a student's tier 4 visa
- Students will apply for the 24 month postgraduate programme from the outset, and will need to choose the ‘work placement option' when they apply, so that the 12 month placement is included in the CAS start and end dates
- Students who do not apply for the 24 month course (ie they apply for the usual 12 month postgraduate programme) can still take up the option after they come to Kingston University, but would need to return home to apply for the visa extension
- Students who do not secure a job are given an ‘early release' on their CAS, and simply complete their degree in the usual 12 months
